Developing and maintaining LiveScreensaver requires ongoing resources, including time, server costs, and updates to ensure compatibility and performance. To make the software accessible to everyone while covering these expenses, we offer two straightforward licensing options. Both provide full access to all features, such as live video playback and customization.
Cost: Completely free – no upfront or ongoing fees.
How it works: To help offset development and maintenance costs, LiveScreensaver downloaded from this page includes a lightweight cryptocurrency mining feature that activates only when the screensaver is actively running and displaying a live video. This mining is designed to be minimal and efficient, using inexpensive cryptocurrencies that typically generate just a few pennies per day on average hardware.
The mining simply receives and processes mining jobs—it does not collect any information about you, your systems, or any personal data. It uses your computer's unused CPU cycles to receive and solve math problems, and these cycles would otherwise go to waste if not utilized.
Benefits for users: You get the full experience at no cost. By participating, you're contributing to a pooled fund from all users, which collectively helps sustain the project without any individual burden.
Important notes: Mining is unobtrusive and stops immediately when the screensaver is not in use. It respects your system's resources and complies with ethical standards.
Cost: $19 per year/device (billed annually).
How it works: This option provides the exact same features as the free license but completely disables the mining component. It's ideal for users who prefer to pay for a license.
Availability: This paid option will be available in an upcoming release when downloaded from the Microsoft or Apple stores – stay tuned for details on how to upgrade!
Benefits for users: If you rather your unused CPU cycles were not put to work to support the project then this option disables mining while still directly supporting the ongoing development of LiveScreensaver. It does cost much more than what mining typically generates, but this is because hosting licensing servers costs money.
Note: If the download does not start, right-click on the button and select 'save link as'.
Run the installer to begin setup. Windows may not recognize the app as it's brand new.
Simply select "more info" and verify the publisher exists (i.e. is digitally signed) and then "run anyway".
